We have completed the official spelling program for the year. We will now use our time to expand our vocabulary. To do this, we will have two commonly used words and have ten related words to each one (A total of 22 words + one bonus word this week). The purpose of this is to learn similar words to common words but to have an improved vocabulary.

The two commonly used words for this week are beautiful and terrible.

*Adaptations will be made in class with specific students so that all students can experience success.*

Language Arts/Social Studies:

The purpose of this activity is to create an interesting tourist brochure that will make people want to come to your destination. Students should use descriptive language and engaging pictures to show why people would want to visit their destination. This destination can be real or imaginary. Students will have a chance to edit their work, ask questions and present their best work. This tourist brochure is due Thursday June 1st. Students will not present to the whole class but will share in small groups (3 students at a time).

The criteria is listed below:

Language Arts/Social Studies:

This week we will learn more about customs from around the world. We will learn about manners from around the world. We will also look at how children attend school at schools around the world.

Manners can be different all around the world and within cultures. Students in division six will be asking their parents/grandparents about what manners they feel are important. Students will use the sheet below to ask parents/grandparents a series of questions. The purpose of this assignment is for students to be exposed to some of the various manners we have all been raised with. There is no one correct answer. Rather, this is an opportunity to share perspectives so that students are thoughtful and set up for success in all they do.
